How to Prevent and Cure Chapped Lips

How to Prevent and Cure Chapped Lips

Most of us have heard that lip balm is addictive.  Slathering it on throughout the day is commonplace for a woman, especially those of us who enjoy wearing lip color.

Heed the following advice by learning the root of the problem.  Dry, cold weather and sun are the foremost culprits that damage your lips. Treat them to the best cures available to reduce dryness and increase natural color while keeping lips noticeably soft.

Stimulate
- Use a soft bristled brush and massage lips gently and in a circular motion before applying lip balm.  Also, avoid licking your lips, this actually removes moisture rather than supplying it

Sunscreen
- Sun burns your skin, therefore sun burns your lips, actually more so because your lips are much more delicate than your complexion.  Make certain your chosen lip balm has sunscreen – if not, apply one that does as a base.

Honey
- Not only will honey keep your skin smooth, but it is also a great way to keep your lips healthy. Honey's naturally occurring enzymes, vitamins and nutrients are absorbed by your lips leaving them kissable and soft.

Lipstick
- if lips are chapped, wear lipstick instead of liner.  Because it is opaque, it acts as a sunscreen and is made with moisturizers.

Daily Supplements
- Multi-vitamins offer seemingly endless benefits to our health and appearance.  B-12 and iron help produce moisture beneath the lips, keeping them supple.

Water
- Yes, water. Because redundantly it moisturizes from the inside out!  Also, moisture retention reduces with age so avoid long term wrinkles surrounding your lips by drinking water.

Anti-bacterial ointment
- If your lips are red, they are likely infected.  Apply an anti-bacterial ointment twice a day.
