These little tricks from the fashion industry provide easy rules to follow for a more sophisticated look.


Hair: “La Chinoise” is a hairstyle that is used in global fashion houses to take the emphasis off of the hair and direct it to the face, accessories and the clothes.  Just pull your hair back at the nape of the neck, raise about an inch and fasten into a slightly messy bun.  This style is always in style, and is very simple to create.

Eyewear: Sunglasses became popular as accessories in the 50’s and have evolved in many styles over the past six decades.  It was Jackie O who stylized large sunglasses into a chic must have, and they are not going out of style any time soon.  The great thing about these over-sized glasses is that they work for everyone.  If your face is large, size them down a little.  If your face is small, don’t size them too large, they should not fall below the upper apples of your cheeks.  If you have a round face, go for squared rims.  If you have a square or heart shaped face, wear rounded rims.  Parisian based author Roman Payne says, “the bigger the sunglasses, the better you feel!” If you are not fond of the large-lens sunglass craze – wear small aviators, or structured frames that have modern angles.

Makeup: The mark of high fashion is accenting one area.  Whether it is playing up your eyes, lips, or going for a natural glow; the goal is to make one area shine. Add shimmering agents to blush for a radiant, natural look.  Wear bold lipstick with a seemingly naked face, or go sultry with smoky eyes.

Jewelry: Earrings that sparkle bring out the sparkle in your eye.  If you love your earrings and want to show them off, pull your hair back.  Layer your necklaces - use one with a pendant, one that drops down your décolletage, and a thin choker.  The key here is to balance several pieces of delicate jewelry with an abundance of it for a fun style.  Overdo it or under-do it, just ensure that it coincides with your general style.
